Australian Airlines' On-Time Performance Continues To Fall Short Of Standards
Airlines in Australia are facing challenges with rising flight cancellation rates.
On-time performance for domestic flights continues to lag behind the country's reliability standards.
Some routes have performed worse than others.
The on-time performance (OTP) among airlines in Australia has continued to struggle, prompting federal officials to disclose that flight cancellation rates have risen by nearly one percent. It comes as flag carrier Qantas reportedly canceled over 5% of its domestic flights in February.
On-time arrival performance has also deteriorated, with last month’s results being “significantly lower” than the long-term average rate. Out of the major airlines in the country, Qantas’ cancelation results have reportedly proved to be the worst.
The downward trend
The Australian government’s Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE) released a report detailing the February OTP of carriers on Friday. Overall, the data highlights that since at least the beginning of the year, airlines have continued to fall short of the country’s reliability standards, which have been well established.
