The FAA ordered a second ground stop at Phoenix airport due to low ceilings, causing delays of 15–30 minutes.
Over 200 flights were delayed, and two were canceled at the airport, with more delays expected due to forecasted rain.
Ground stops are enacted to ensure safety in the presence of severe weather and prevent airspace congestion.
Amid storms that have surrounded the metropolitan area these past few days, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ordered its second ground stop at Phoenix-Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX). According to the latest information from the FAA, delays at the city's primary airport and hub for US legacy carrier American Airlines are averaging between 15 and 30 minutes in length.

The second order, which took place at 12:45 on February 8, came after an earlier ground stop. Both came as a result of low ceilings, a term that designates when cloud coverage is too low to the ground for certain flights to take off safely.

The worst may be behind them, but nonetheless, further delays may be in store for the area, with rain forecasted for Saturday. In total, over 400 flights have been delayed at the facility today, with two flights being canceled altogether, according to FlightAware's Misery Map.
